About us-01.png

Gala on the Green (GOTG) is a black-tie charity ball with the sole purpose to raise much needed funds and awareness for youth charities. GOTG was established in 2011 in Australia by young professionals who come from a range of industries – from finance, to legal, to media, to medical – who all share a passion for wanting to make a difference in the community for people their own age who have been less fortunate. To date, it has raised over $160,000AUD for the youth homeless charity, Brisbane Youth Services.

Gala on the Green launched in London in 2015, proving a massive success having raised over £52,000 for the London youth charities. At the Gala, guests are invited to socialise with like-minded individuals and network in the beautiful green surroundings whilst being entertained throughout the evening with live music, a raffle, delicious food and flowing drinks.

The continued support of the Gala on the Green annual event makes a life-changing difference to the young people supported by Depaul UK.

For the past 30 years, Depaul UK has supported some of the most marginalised and vulnerable young people to progress from chaos and homelessness to stability and independence. Young people supported by Depaul UK find themselves facing homelessness due to a variety of personal and societal factors, but the majority are at crisis point due to family breakdown – 61% of Nightstop users in 2018 accessed the service for this reason.

Wherever possible, Depaul will endeavour to ensure young people can return home. If not, we work collaboratively with young people, equipping them with the necessary skills to live and thrive independently. In 2018 alone we worked with more than 3,000 young people to support them in avoiding or escaping homelessness.

Depaul’s emergency and preventative services help young people experiencing homelessness at every stage of their journey, from early intervention work in schools and colleges, to family mediation, housing support or longer-term supported accommodation.

The support of passionate and driven committees like Gala on the Green means that Depaul UK can help more young people to move onto better, more independent lives – away from the streets and the dangers surrounding homelessness.

To ensure the charity can help even more individuals in need across London and the UK, Depaul UK welcomes Gala on the Green’s committed support to provide unrestricted funds to help services such as Nightstop, Endeavour and Get Up & Go! meet the specific needs of those groups of young people to enable them to prosper and live independently.

Gala on the Green has supported Alone in London, a division of Depaul UK, for the 2016 & 2017 event. With the funds raised, this has provided key specialist support such as early intervention work advising and educating young people on conflict resolution and resilience; providing emotional support in one-to-one sessions through it’s free counselling service; Mind Connect, delivering housing and benefits advice and family mediation.

Alone in London, supports 2,000 individuals each year and it’s work compliments Depaul UK’s London services for homeless young people. Working closely with Depaul, it’s emergency overnight accommodation service; Nightstop London and funders, over the last 2 years, Alone in London has been able to support a greater number of young people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances which has positioned the service in a strong position to move forward positively.

To ensure the charity can help even more individuals in need across London and the UK, Gala on the Green will be supporting Depaul UK for the 2018 event. With this committed support, Depaul are able to provide unrestricted funds to help services such as Nightstop, Endeavour and Get Up & Go! meet the specific needs of those groups of young people to enable them to prosper and live independently.

Depaul UK marks its 30th anniversary in 2019 and in this time has earned a reputation for housing and supporting some of London and the UK’s most marginalised young people, helping them to progress from chaos and homelessness, to stability and independence. We believe that no young person should have to sleep rough, and while we work to provide

the accommodation that offers an immediate solution to homelessness, it is also a vital part of our work to prevent young people from becoming homeless in the first place.

The charity helps young people aged 16-25 who maybe sleeping rough or without a safe permanent home. In 2016 we provided emergency accommodation and longer-term support to 3,107 young homeless people in crisis.  The people we support are some of the most disadvantaged and isolated young people in the UK. Many have experienced rough sleeping and come from extremely challenging circumstances. We believe that every young person deserves a home and a stake in their community which is why we work to provide the stability and support these young people need to progress beyond homelessness.

Depaul UK houses around 800 young people a year in our medium to long term accommodation projects, providing them with a safe place to call home, one-to-one support and progression opportunities to lead independent lives. Our supported housing lodgings are in London and across the UK in the North East and the North West with young people residing with Depaul from 2-months to 2-years depending on their individual circumstances. Depaul have a wider national reach through Nightstop UK providing an emergency service network working with volunteer hosts to provide a same day response to young people who are without a safe place to stay that night.

Depaul UK’s mission is to end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it. Help us to end youth homelessness.
